The Art of Picking Your Spirit Animal —K.M. Jenkins Edition

Hi everyone. Today I want to talk to you about picking your spirit animal. Having a spirit animal can help you brand your author website and logo. I started off with a dragon logo because I have loved dragons for my entire life. If there is a dragon book to read I am reading it.

If you look to the left you will see my first logo that I created. It worked great for stickers and promo materials. The only problem was that it had a strong epic fantasy feel, which didn’t quite fit my brand.

At the time I was working on my Tales of Ferrês short story series. It was based around Epic Fantasy Adventures with dragons and their riders. But as my writing evolved I realized I didn’t think this logo would represent me as an author with all my different directions my writing was going. One of my books I released was an Urban Fantasy Paranormal Romance with gargoyles and witches. Well I wasn’t around dragons anymore. I still have my group on Facebook named after my original theme of my writing. But my logo and branding for my author business has evolved since then.

Now I was hunting for a logo that would represent me as an author. My favorite animals are foxes and wolves. Wolves aren’t only what I plan to write about and I love foxes more than anything. This lead to me looking at tattoos of foxes and I found one I really liked. The nice thing about Photoshop is the ability to take images a part to make them into new ones.

After experimenting with colors and trying to brighten my palette for my logo I ended up going with purples and oranges. The font stayed about the same but I am happy with my fox logo. It represents my favorite animal and helps me feel more young adult and new adult for readers of all ages. You can check out my logo here ->.

Foxes have a meaning in my life besides being my favorite animal. I had a dog named Muffin that looked like a miniature fox. She was like a baby to me and I raised her from the day she was born. In a way, I am bringing her memory into my logo and my journey as a writer. Plus foxes are close in body to wolves they are just more slender.

Are you an author looking for your author logo? Have you found your spirit animal that shows up in your writing on regular basis? Maybe you should do some thinking and find your spirit animal for your logo. You might even find a deeper meaning behind your logo than you did at first.
