What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

Honestly? The worldbuilding. I absolutely adore research, and this book gave me an excuse to dive into medieval England in all its complexity. I read nonfiction books about Warwick Castle, medieval women’s lives, castle architecture, medieval warfare, and even church politics. I obsessed over clothing layers, chamber pot arrangements, and bathing customs (spoiler: they weren’t great). I spent far too long debating whether my characters would have had access to cloves or parchment or specific sword types.

But more than the factual detail, I loved how the setting shaped the emotions of the story. I wasn’t just describing stone towers—I was describing how cold those stones would feel under Sophia’s bare feet. How claustrophobic the chapel would be. How much tension would crackle in a room when no one could speak freely because of rigid hierarchy. I wanted readers to feel every drafty hallway, every silken gown, every breath of danger in the air.

I also loved exploring the emotional contrasts. One moment Sophia’s admiring the beauty of a sunlit rose garden; the next, she’s witnessing the brutal justice of a medieval execution. Writing those shifts gave the story a raw, unpredictable texture that I hope resonates with readers.

And of course, writing the romantic tension was incredibly fun. I love a good enemies-to-lovers slow burn, and Henry and Sophia gave me plenty to work with. Every glance, every misstep, every almost-touch carried weight. Their bond doesn’t form easily—but when it does, it’s earned.

Ultimately, writing this book allowed me to bring together everything I love: history, romance, emotional complexity, ethical dilemmas, and a woman who’s strong not because she knows all the answers, but because she refuses to give up—even when the world around her makes no sense.

Sophia

I thought I was trapped in history. Turns out, it’s far worse than I imagined.

I woke up in 15th-century England, a brutal world where women are silenced, superstition rules, and survival depends on obedience. Trapped far from my husband and son, nothing makes sense. I’m a scientist, not a damsel in distress, so I did what I had to—I disguised myself as a man and trained with Henry, the castle’s master-at-arms, learning to wield a sword to defend myself.

But as I carve my place in this world, my forbidden love for Henry shakes everything I believed in. Do I fight to return home—or surrender to a future I never imagined?

Yet, I can’t shake the feeling that Henry is hiding something—something that could shatter everything I’ve fought for.

Ethan

What if the woman you’re supposed to observe becomes the one you can’t live without?

I never meant to fall for her. She’s fearless, brilliant, captivating. Every lesson, every stolen moment deepens the lie—and my guilt. I’m not the man she thinks I am. That my name is Ethan, not Henry, is the least of the lies I tell her.

If she learns the truth, I’ll lose her forever.

And time is running out.

*Warning: strong language, steamy scenes, and graphic violence inside. Mention/Description of, but not limited to, abduction, blood, death, amputation, childbirth, death, sexual assault, suicide, violence against children, rape, and torture.*

The book is the first in a duology and ends with a cliffhanger.
